New Manager Keeps Progress on Track

BP Paulsboro Terminal’s new environmental business manager, Sasa Jazic (pronounced “SAH-shah YAH-zich”), is keeping clean-up and redevelopment efforts on the path to success.

“The message is, ‘Nothing changes,’” Jazic says. “My priority is to ensure that those projects to which I am assigned continue on the successful track that my predecessor left here.”

Jazic began his new position on May 1, 2007, replacing Steve Pause, who now works for BP Pipeline Distribution in Long Beach, California. Jazic works in Paulsboro two days every other week and manages other projects on the East Coast the rest of his time. By mid-July, Jazic had met with Paulsboro Mayor John Burzichelli, Borough Administrator John S. Salvatore and Water/Sewer Superintendent John D. Daley.

Jazic is looking forward to new challenges and opportunities at the Terminal in the next few years. New remediation technologies will be coming to the site, he said, and he will be coordinating remediation with site redevelopment.

“There is already a good team in place,” Jazic says. The team includes Sovereign Consulting, Inc., which handles operations at the Terminal; and HRC, which assists with community involvement.

Before coming to BP, Jazic spent 13 years as a consultant with an engineering construction firm. He helped BP and other major oil companies clean up contaminated soil and groundwater. One of the projects he was involved with included the redevelopment of a site at a riverfront location – a similarity to the BP Paulsboro Terminal.

“I understand the importance of BP’s commitment to health and safety,” Jazic says, “ and to the community of Paulsboro.”

Jazic was born in Croatia, where he earned a B.S. at the University of Zagreb. He earned an M.S. in Civil Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.

Jazic, his wife and their daughter moved to the United States in 1992 and live in Chicago. Jazic enjoys spending time with his daughter and playing basketball and tennis.
