Farewell to Steve Pause

After 12 years of managing BP's efforts to assess and clean up the environmental challenges at the former Paulsboro Terminal, Steve Pause is moving on.

Steve has worked tirelessly to fulfill BP's commitment of cleaning up the Terminal so that the site can be brought to a productive and economically beneficial reuse. The guiding force behind much of the work that has been accomplished over the last decade, Steve is responsible for many of BP's initiatives. He began interim remedial measures while investigations took place so that the clean up of the site could move forward, and set the stage for the redevelopment plans that are currently underway.

Meanwhile, Steve has been engaged with the NJDEP to ensure that the regulatory requirements for investigating and cleaning up the site have been carried out in a timely manner. He carried forth BP's vision of community outreach by publishing this newsletter on a regular basis, developing a website, and conducting public meetings to keep Paulsboro residents up to date.

Steve recalled how he arrived in Paulsboro just when John Burzichelli was elected Mayor for the first time. Together they helped shape a productive relationship between BP and the Borough by forming a working partnership that has grown over the years.

BP is committed to continuing Steve's efforts as cleanup of the site enters its final stages. Steve, meanwhile, will be transferring to Long Beach, CA where he will be a project general manager for BP's pipeline distribution system. His dedication and ability to accomplish so much on such a complicated project will be missed in Paulsboro.

"Being in Paulsboro has forever changed who I am," says Steve. "Our work here is a true model of the success for the value of developing relationships and engaging stakeholders so that the best job can be done for the community."

When asked if he'll miss Paulsboro, Steve smiles and says: "You can take the boy out of Paulsboro, but you can never take Paulsboro out of the boy."
